1st payment from Living Maya Cards to CEPC Tolimán

We have sent the first payment from Living Maya Cards to CEPC Toliman in Guatemala, totaling $1500! With this money, they were able to purchase 5 wooden tables and 50 plastic chairs for the community center, and fund the first 3 months of a scholarship program (see below). This was a big win for the community as they continue building their capacity to hold more classes, workshops, and host more students. Thank you all for the support

EDUCATE GIRLS

We're funding a scholarship for Mely, a 23 yearold Maya Kaqchikel woman who hopes to empower her community through cooking nutritious, locally-sourced dishes. Mely is receiving a scholarship from CIELO to attend a 1 year cooking program. To pay it forward, she will share her knowledge with her community by leading 6 workshops on nutrition and cooking with local ingredients at CEPC Toliman.

Support Mely by making a donation. Donations will fund her enrollment fees, cooking ingredients, as well as meals, public transport, and accommodation while attending classes. Since she lives in a rural community, she commutes to the nearest city to attend school.

RE-EARTH GRANT

We have been selected to receive a grant from the Re:Earth Initiative!! This is the first grant we have ever received, and is a huge step for us as a small nonprofit! We were selected out of 225 applications. This milestone is a testament to all the work we have been able to achieve with your support so far. The grant will be used to fund:

- 1 year of salary for CEPC Toliman’s operations manager

- Electricity connection for CEPC Toliman’s community center

NEW BOARD MEMBER

We are very happy to announce a new board member joining the CIELO Board, Mariana Moscoso (pronouns: they/them/elle). Mariana identifies as a detribalized and reconnecting indigenous person of Achi (Maya), Nicānāhuac, and Afro-indigenous roots. They are a cultural strategist, liberation doula, facilitator, storyteller, budding cultural practitioner, digital artist, and zine-maker that centers Maya Cosmology; and the Associate Director of Artist Leadership at The Center for Cultural Power, in California. We are so excited to have them on board!
