Emergency Aid for Mayan Families (COVID-19 response)

While our mission is to build long term food security, the pandemic merited a quick response with emergency aid. We provided 20 Kaqchikel families with direct support at start of the COVID crisis. These are families who are part of CEPC Toliman’s permaculture training program, but are struggling to meet daily needs during the emergency lockdown measures. The emergency aid bags included food, toilet paper, and cooking supplies.

In 2024, the Re:Earth grant supported CEPC Tolimán’s transformation—connecting the center to electricity for the first time, deepening native permaculture with cacao and melipona bees, and hiring its first full-time Maya team member. Over 70 participants joined workshops that strengthened food sovereignty and ancestral ecological knowledge in Quixayá, Guatemala.
